What are the ABC’s of Camp? The ABC’s of Camp are
Clean Camper, Clean Tent, and Clean Campsite.
Why do we do them? We do them because they are small
things we can do to make us feel better about ourselves. If
we start by doing these things, they give us peace so we can
start working on our bigger problems. The first one about
clean Camper helps other people feel better about me if
they know that I am clean. If we have our tents and
campsite clean, we can respect them more and feel good
about ourselves. That in turn, will also help us to change our
bigger problems.
Are the ABC’s of Camp important? Yes, they most
certainly are. If we didn’t do the ABC’s of Camp there would
almost be no point of Camp, because you have to start
improving small stuff before big stuff. What better place to
start than by keeping yourself and your campsite clean.

ABC’s of OWBC
A. Clean Camper: When a Camper first comes to Camp,
he has problems. Well, to fix them, he needs to take a
different path than he was taking before. So for example, I
am Jalen, and I have been at Camp for 21 months. When I
first came, I struggled with telling the truth, but what
helped me was seeing that the truth needs to be said if I
want to get anywhere in life. When a Camper realizes that
he has been at Camp a long time, he starts to put in the
hard work. The 4 main things he needs to learn before he
returns to his family is responsibility, faith, care for people,
and a forgiving heart. If he does these 4 things every day,
he will feel clean, helpful, and last but not least: successful.
B. Clean Tent: Having a clean tent shows that the
Camper is not lazy. If his stuff is everywhere and he waits
until someone tells him he needs to pick up his stuff, he is
lazy. On a daily morning routine, Campers are taught to
make their bed, pack clothes for showers, and sweep their
tent. Sweeping the tent and keeping it picked up are 2 of
the main rules they need to keep a clean tent.
C. Clean Campsite: There are 11 different tents in a
normal campsite, and trails to each tent. So to keep them
clean, the Campers need to diligently rake the trails, and
sweep or wash the tents and keep them in stock. They
should also make sure they are treating it with respect. I
personally think that if you walk into a tent, you can feel
if it’s dirty. So, it shouldn’t just look clean but it should feel
clean too. All together it should BE clean!
